When it's the middle of the summer, it's important to have several no-bake recipes that are fool-proof and ready to be made for any occasion.
As a professional home baker, some of my favorites include this no churn funfetti ice cream (just use patriotic sprinkles!) and fellow home bakers' favorite, homemade chocolate pudding pie.
If you need convincing on making these cereal treats, I make these fourth of July rice krispie treats every year for the holiday. At this point I've been making them for almost 10 years!
My family loves them and I know yours will too.

Ingredients for Patriotic Rice Krispie Treats

- Marshmallows: Use mini marshmallows, not the large ones. Also, fresh marshmallows compared to stale will melt much easier. You'll need one 10 ounce bag of marshmallows.
- Rice Cereal: I strongly recommend using the name brand cereal Rice Krispies for this recipe. The other brands don't stay as crunchy and the bars get really soft.
- Sprinkles: I used these colorful sprinkles. Use any red white and blue sprinkles you like!

How to Make 4th of July Rice Krispie Treats
Follow along below for the step-by-step process.

Step 1: In a large sauce pan over medium-low heat, melt the butter.
Once the butter has melted, add the mini marshmallows and stir occasionally until completely melted.

Step 2: Remove the pan from the heat and mix in the vanilla extract and salt.
Then, gently mix in the rice cereal until evenly coated.

Step 3: Spoon the mixture into the prepared baking pan and gently use a piece of parchment paper that's been sprayed with non-stick spray to press it down into an even layer.
Then add the sprinkles over the top.
Allow the rice krispie treats to set up in the pan for 30 minutes before slicing them into bars.
Storing & Freezing
Although these bars are best consumed within 1-2 days, they will last up to 3 days in an airtight container at room temperature.
If needed, you could also wrap each bar individually in plastic wrap or aluminum foil and keep them on the counter.
I have never frozen rice krispie treats before, so I'm not sure how they would turn out.

Expert Baking Tips
- Baking Pan: Line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper and then non-stick spray. Feel free to use either a metal or glass baking pan.
- Parchment Paper: Use a piece of parchment paper lightly sprayed with non-stick spray to evenly press down the rice krispies into the prepared baking dish. Do this carefully as we don't want to crush the cereal.
- Additional Toppings: In addition to the sprinkles, you could also top the treats with red, white, or blue candy melts that have been melted or july 4th m&m's.
- Easy Cutting: Use a bench scraper to easily slice the rice krispie treats.
Recipe FAQs
If you want to show more patriotic pride, you could dye your treats using either red food gel or blue food coloring. Simply mix in the color to the melted marshmallows before adding the cereal.
No you do not. Just keep them in an airtight container on the counter.
